Huddle

Huddle is a leadership training tool.

We believe each of us is called to be a disciple of Jesus and to disciple others (see Matthew 28:18-20). That means we are to become both sheep and shepherd: great followers of Jesus and great leaders of others. Huddle is an opportunity to develop in these roles.

Our leaders are invited into a Huddle (where they are led), and over time they will invite others into a Huddle (where they will lead).

In Huddle, we will grow in Christ-like character, learn effective tools, and allow God to speak through His Word to bring about powerful transformation in our lives.

Huddle is similar to other small groups in two ways: it is a group and it is small. However, there are some key differences.

A Different Invitation

You are only in a Huddle because someone invites you. They are not advertised and there is no place to sign up.

A Different Kind of Growth

Huddles do not grow by adding more people; they multiply when members start their own Huddles.

A Different Kind of Leader

Your Huddle leader is not a facilitator, he or she is a discipler. They will invite you into a deeper relationship, giving you access to all parts of their lives.

A Different Goal

In Huddle the priority is a safe place for growth. This requires honesty, accountability, learning, encouragement, and challenge.

Nothing invested, nothing gained. Huddle is intended to be high impact, which means the commitment is also higher.

Time

This is not a six-week class or a Saturday morning seminar. Your Huddle will run about 30 weeks (essentially a school year).

Preparation

There is a daily and weekly preparation for each meeting. For example, by the end of Huddle you'll have read the whole New Testament.

Vulnerability

We measure success by the growth in maturity and fruitfulness: so, Huddle must be a safe place to share both success and failures.

Replication

In his final letter, Paul says Timothy should take what he has heard and teach others who will pass it on. That is our hope for you as well.

Each meeting, we will:

question_answer Spend time discerning how God is leading us, both through targeted questions and through our Scripture reading.
lightbulb Learn or practice one of ten simple visual tools to lead change and spiritual growth in ourselves and in others.

Between meetings, we will:

book Read about a chapter per day of the New Testament.
movie Watch at least one short (10 minute) video per week.
library_books Over the course of Huddle, we will also read and discuss two short books.

No matter what the topic or tool, the goal is that you will clearly discern what God is saying to you and what you are gong to do about it.

  1. You will have growth in Christ-like character.
  2. You will have reproducible tools and a way to clearly explain Biblical concepts to those you lead, whether they are in a Huddle or not.
  3. You will have established some consistent patterns of drawing close to God.
  4. You will have confidence that God is directing you, and you'll have learned easy and practical ways to ask, "What is God saying?" and "What am I going to do about it?"
  5. You will have a new team that you've learned and grown with.
  6. You will have a mission from God: to do the work that Jesus commissioned us to do in Matthew 28.

We meet Tuesdays at 7:00pm at Alex's house in Heartland Crossing. We'll kick things off with a game night on the 22nd to give everyone a chance to get acquanited before we jump in.
